Peace Activities

Everyone should be able to enjoy freedom, live comfortably, and be treated kindly. However, Kami warned us, “Although they say the world is becoming civilized, it is not. It is collapsing…” (GI: Ichimura Mitsugoro, vol.1:17). Kami is concerned for the welfare of the earth. We humans have made many mistakes that must be corrected. Konkokyo is joining in the growing effort across the world to support global issues, promote peace, and preserve our precious environment.

KONKOKYO PEACE ACTIVITY CENTER (KPAC)
As a non-governmental, non-profit organization, KPAC works together with its counterparts in Cambodia, the Philippines, and Thailand, to promote projects in these countries. KPAC’s fund-raising program is called “Give a meal” project in which participants skip meals to donate money. With this fund, KPAC provides scholarships, early child care, services for street-children, and so on. All the projects are implemented for the betterment and well-being of the children’s lives. KPAC hopes to expand this project beyond the Konkokyo organization and even overseas.

PEACE GATHERINGS
Konkokyo holds annual Peace Gatherings at various locations throughout Japan. At the gatherings, participants offer sincere prayers and discuss ways to improve their surroundings. They then work on implementing these suggestions within their communities.

COLLECTION OF THE REMAINS IN OKINAWA
Initiated by Konkokyo, this project has drawn people of all different nationalities and religious backgrounds to help gather and pray for the remains of war victims scattered throughout Okinawa. Prayers for the deceased and for peace are given onsite. This program started in 1977, and the number of participants has grown ever since.
